90 Days of Namaste: Day 58

Phrase of the Day: Bliss

One day I will be able to do this!
One day I will be able to do this!

Today was a kind-of-all-over-the-place sort of day, and I knew I wouldn’t have much time for yoga. But I “made it to the mat” for a quick YogaGlo practice called “Bliss Blast.” It was by one of my favorite teachers, Amy, and it was a ten-minute pick-me-up designed to improve anyone’s mood. I have to be honest, it worked!

One thing I did realize today though is that I much prefer going to classes in person than doing them at home. I want to honor that more this month…maybe try to go to four classes a week in person rather than my usual two? Stay tuned!

90 Days of Namaste: Days 46-48

Phrase of the Days: Patience3c4b984061c4ef620acc63df89832d37

The past three days shook out like this:

Day 46: Meditation in my snowy park! Loved it! Small but it felt good to practice yoga mindfulness.

Day 47: An awesome class on YogaGlo by Taylor Harkness, called “You Got This!” I simply love him, and I was proud of myself for doing yoga for a solid hour šŸ™‚

Day 48: Quickly Start Your Day Right from YogaGlo. Didn’t love the class, but I’m glad I made it to the mat.

Now back to face this blizzard outside!

90 Days of Namaste: Day 45– Halfway there!

It’s hard to believe that I am halfway through my yoga journey! Though, as I’ve said before, I am now so hooked on regular yoga practice that there’s no way I’ll cut it out completely after 90 days.

I had a lot of random errands today so I did a quick, hard, class so it could fill in for my 10k cross-training. I noticed how I’m able to go farther down inĀ chaturanga before caving, twist deeper and even lift my legs higher in three-legged dog! These are subtle changes, but I’m reminding myself that they are making huge differences in my life.

One extra note about my class: I cannot recommend YogaGlo enough– it’s $18/month for unlimited classes, and their filter system make it easy for you to find the duration/style/focus of a class you want. I’m hooked for good šŸ™‚

90 Days of Namaste: Day 37: Refreshed

Word of the Day: Refreshed!

I love this city and love this photo!

Today I had a bit of a fragmented day, so YogaGlo provided me with the perfect practice. After running around all morning, Ā I did a class called “Amy’s Anytime Refresher,” (side note, OBSESSED with the teacher) and it was great! It really gave me a quick, enjoyable yoga practice, and immediately lifted my mood (which was in a good place to begin with!). I was happy to see how I could “sink in” quicker– it was easier to take deep breaths and focus than it has in the past.

On to another day of Namaste!

The past two days have been quick yoga ones…I didn’t parcel out the time I wanted to for yoga, but IĀ did keep up my 10k training! On Saturday I did a fabulous morning practice called Wake Up, Rockstar! Today, I did a great nightside one called “Evening Openers.”

What I love about these classes is that they’ve reminded me of why consistency is key in yoga–not so much constraint; what I mean is, doing these 15 minute videos in totally different parts of the day has seemed to be more beneficial then slaving away in the weight room for an hour every day. Both are consistent, but yoga is fluid. It works for my day and heightens my mood. I’m glad I’ve made this a daily practice, because even in short increments, it makes a difference to me.

I still wish I was better at waking up early in the morning (so I can actually do the hour of yoga I want to everyday), but I have a little over 50 days to make that happen šŸ™‚

90 Days of Namaste: Day 31

Word of the Day: Yes!

Today started hectic but ended wonderfully. I had a really productive day full of personal growth and ended the day with YogaGlo’s “Night Cap Practice.” Since I don’t get home from work til midnight, it was perfect for me. I also went through YogaGlo and added a ton of classes to “My Practice” (a part of the website where you can save classes for later!), which really renewed my 90 Day Namaste commitment and positive attitude.Ā Overall, a positive yes! day and yes! practice!

The class was restorative and also brought me sensations I haven’t felt in yoga before. I’m taking this as a sign that I’m opening up? I’ll sleep on it and see. šŸ™‚ Night night.

90 Days of Namaste: Day 11: Pajama Yoga

Word of the Day:Ā Sleep

I knew this day would come.

I did yoga in my pajamas.

After a long day of various errands (and my kickboxing aka kick-my-butt class earlier this morning), I was ready for some restorative yoga. So I decided to try Yoga Nidra.

Also known as “Yogic Sleep” this yoga definitely felt like that. There were intense moments where I almost felt tethered to the floor, and others when I had incredibly lucid thoughts. As someone who can’t sit still for more than 5 minutes, the fact that I made it through 20 whole minutes without shifting was a big deal! The last 10 minutes of the video (from YogaGlo) were a bit of a struggle. But it reminded me why I’m so happy that I choseĀ yoga as my 90 day commitment. Yoga means so many different things, and today it meant grounding myself and resting, and that’s completely okay. IĀ can totally see how meditation helps stress levels, and I’m excited to try it more.

But now, time for bed.

90 Days of Namaste: Day 7: Return of the Zafu

Word of the Day: Comfort

Today marked the return of my zafu into practice! For those of you who may not know, a zafu is a pillow used in yoga as a meditation or stretch tool. We had to use them in acting school and mine had been accruing dust in my closet–until today.

I got called in for a morning shift tomorrow (meaning I have to be in the office at 3:40 AM) Ā and my afternoon got frittered away with errands and obligations, which meant I had to do something relaxing and go. to. bed.

So I joined a 10-day free trial of YogaGlo, an online yoga subscription series that my friend Hannah swears by. It’s kind of cool–first you choose a class based on your goal: body, heart or mind, and then can filter it by length, level, type of yoga, etc. I chose a class entitled Release, Relax & Rejuvenate. Ā It was mostly lying down and breathing in some sort of yoga pose, and not gonna lie, I was incredibly bored. Ā Definitely not my thing.

But at the end of the class, the teacher said (like a toast)Ā “To the gift of this time. Congratulations on having taken it.”

I’m happy to figure out that one subconscious reason I may have chose yoga as my 90 day journey is because “yoga” can mean so many things. It can be sweaty, stressful or simply being. All make you a better person, and so while I may not love a certain day, it’s making me more in tune with myself.

Cheers to one week! Many more to go. Namaste.
